We find the one thing holding your player back, then track whether it actually changes.
Personalized video development for hockey players. We identify one specific habit, build a plan to improve it, and measure it game after game until it becomes part of their game.

Specialized video development for the dedicated hockey player
Next: same focus. The target is 8 of 10, held twice.
Why one habit at a timeAnd why one session will not fix anything.
One focus at a time. We stay with it long enough to know whether it is actually changing — not move on because we found something new.
Most video services hand a family fifteen things to fix. A fourteen-year-old cannot work on fifteen things, so nothing moves and the film gets watched once.
We identify the single area that will make the biggest difference, give your player one specific action to take into practice, and track it across multiple games until it holds.
One session does not fix anything
Parents often expect video to work like a diagnosis and a cure in the same appointment — watch the film, see the mistake, problem gone. It does not go like that, and we would rather say so now than have you find out in December.
A breakdown shows your player exactly what is happening and gives them one thing to carry into practice. The change happens on the ice, over weeks, by them. Four to six games is realistic. Some habits take a full season.
What we can promise is that you will know. Every review measures the same thing the same way, so whether it is working stops being a matter of opinion.
The methodFive steps. Only the first one is yours.
Study the film
You send clips from LiveBarn, InStat or whatever your team uses, within 48 hours of the game.
Hone one habit
Every shift reviewed, one measurable habit chosen — the one costing your player the most right now.
Integrate it into practice
Specific reps and cues for drills their team already runs. Nothing added to your schedule.
Film it again
The next game, scored against that same habit — so progress is a number rather than an impression.
Track it until it holds
Two reviews in a row at target and the focus is retired. Then the next one is set.
What arrives after each gameA video walkthrough of your player’s shifts, focused entirely on the current habit — plus a written record you can open any time.
How the score works
Every focus is measured the same way from game to game. We count the opportunities your player had to execute the habit, how many they took, and how many they missed. That ratio is the score.
It is not a grade on their game or a ranking against other players. It measures one specific thing, so a change in the number means a change in the habit rather than a change in how they played overall.
Every breakdown ends with
- The current focus, and the score for this game
- Whether it improved, held or slipped against last time
- What we actually saw — the specific shifts, and what they cost
- Two things to work on before the next game
Back to you within five days. The written record updates the same day and holds the full history — every focus, every score, and the date each one was retired.
Not ready for a full program? Start with the Deep Dive
Two hours of work on the film you send, walked through with you live. You leave with:
- One clearly identified development priority
- Video examples from your player’s own games
- A specific plan for working it into practice
- A way to measure whether it is changing
Plenty of families take the Deep Dive, get a clear answer, and go and work on it themselves. That is a perfectly good outcome, and we will tell you honestly if we think it is the right one for your player. If you want us to keep going, it becomes the first step of your program.
We do not coach your player’s systemAnd we never will. There are three layers to how a player is developed, and we only work at the bottom one.
| HABITSWhat we work on | Shoulder check before the puck arrives. Gap control on the rush. First touch under pressure. These are true whoever is behind the bench. |
| CONCEPTSWhat habits feed | Reading a rush, supporting the puck, closing space. A player with sound habits executes these without being told. |
| THE SYSTEMYour coach’s call | The forecheck, the breakout, the D-zone coverage. Entirely their decision, and none of our business. |
A player with better habits runs any system better. Nothing we give your player asks them to do something different from what their coach is asking. If a focus ever conflicted with team instruction, we would change the focus — not the instruction.
It also means this works regardless of who is coaching, which team they are on, or whether that changes mid-season.
The programsEvery program starts with a Deep Dive and closes with a summary and teaching video. One decision: how long, and how often.

Why two reviews a month
Four reviews closes one focus — the target has to hold twice in a row before we move on. At two a month that puts about four games between looks, which is the time a habit needs to actually embed through game reps.
Looking more often does not develop faster. It just reviews faster than a player can change. The cadence is a coaching decision, not a package option — Elite runs at three a month because those players are playing more hockey, not because more analysis works better.
If it is not working
If a focus has not moved after four reviews, we reassess at no charge. Either we picked the wrong thing, which is on us, or the work is not happening — and that is a conversation worth having either way.
You can stop any time. Pay for the reviews delivered, nothing for the ones that are not. We would rather sort something out than hold a family to a program that no longer makes sense.
RETURN — for time away from the iceSix weeks of the development work that does not need ice.
A player who is off the ice cannot practice a habit or send you new film. So we stop working at the habit layer and move up one — habits need repetitions, but concepts need understanding, and that can be built anywhere.
Injury, illness, a season that went sideways, or something going on away from the rink. We do not need to know why — if your player is off the ice and still wants to get better, this is built for that.
In season a player is playing, practicing and travelling. Time off the ice is the only stretch all year with room for the learning half of development. That is what this is for.
Six weeks
| Week 1Live | We study the film they already have, set the focus they will attack on day one back, and baseline it from their last games. |
| Week 2Assignment | Supplied film — pro or college — watched with a specific lens. Not their own games. |
| Week 3Live | Debrief the concept, adjust what they are looking for. |
| Week 4Assignment | Their own team, watched for one thing — from the stands, or from film if travel is not possible. |
| Week 5Assignment | Their own recent film, revisited against the concept they have just learned. This is where most players see their own game differently for the first time. |
| Week 6Live | The return plan. They step back on the ice already knowing their focus, with a number to beat. |
What it costs
If your player is already in a SHIFT program, nothing. We pause the program and run RETURN instead, then pick up where we left off when they are back. You do not pay twice and you do not lose the months.
If they are not, $850 for the six weeks. If they are off longer, the block repeats.
One thing this is not. We are not medical or clinical. No return-to-play clearance, no advice on recovery of any kind, no opinion on whether your player is ready — that belongs to their doctor, trainer, or whoever is supporting them. RETURN prepares the hockey side and nothing else.
Built for players who want more than a highlight reel
- Want to understand their own game
- Are willing to work on one thing at a time
- Have regular game film available
- Want measurable feedback beyond goals and assists
- More ice time
- Recruiting exposure
- Highlight videos
- Generic feedback
Real development takes repetition. We stay with a focus long enough to know whether it is actually changing, rather than moving on because we found something new.
Questions families ask
Who actually does the work?
Josh Storm — Hockey Director, Hawkeye Hockey Services. Every Deep Dive and every live meeting is delivered by him.
15+ years coaching · 10 seasons as a head coach at Owatonna · 5 seasons at Lakeville South · 3 state tournament appearances · USA Hockey camp coach.
Game reviews are delivered by Hawkeye coaches trained on the same method. Every review is checked before it reaches your family.
What if our team does not have game film?
Then this will not work, and we will tell you on the first call rather than three hours into a Deep Dive.
Most teams running LiveBarn, InStat, Hudl or similar are fine. Some associations have film but parents do not know how to pull clips — if that is you, ask, because it is usually a five-minute problem rather than a dead end.
Which program is right for us?
Start with how long you want to commit. Foundation is four months and closes out two focus areas. Development is six months and closes three. Elite is six months at three reviews a month for players carrying a heavier schedule.
All three run the same method at the same cadence. The difference is how many focus areas your player gets through, and whether the program ends with a live evaluation or a teaching video.
What if we start after October?
Complete the Deep Dive, then pay the monthly rate beginning in your first month.
There is a limit. A focus needs four reviews to be properly closed out, so a program has to have at least two months left to run. Past that point we will point you to single reviews at $175 rather than sell you something that cannot finish.
How long before we see something change?
Four to six games before a focus moves enough to call it, and some take a full season. Nothing changes because your player watched a video — it changes because they took one specific thing into practice and kept at it.
What you get immediately is a clear answer about what is actually costing your player, which is often the part families have never had.
Is our player old enough?
It works from roughly 10U up, but it depends less on age than on whether the player can take a specific instruction into practice on their own. If they still need a coach beside them to apply something, this is early.
We will say so on the call. Not yet is a real answer and we give it often.
What if we need to stop partway through?
Injury, a move, a change in circumstances — talk to us. We would rather sort something out than hold a family to a program that no longer makes sense.
We ask that it is a real change rather than a quiet month, because the method is built to be slow and the results arrive late.
Not sure? Start with a $250 Deep Dive
Or book twenty minutes first, at no cost. We will ask what you are seeing, check you can get film, and tell you honestly whether this is right for your player. Sometimes the honest answer is not yet — we would rather say so.
